Juan Oms

Dr. Juan Oms is a distinguished psychiatrist with extensive experience in clinical practice, education, and healthcare administration. He earned his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG) in Jalisco, Mexico, and completed his residency in Psychiatry at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, in collaboration with the University of Miami and the VA Medical Center. Driven by a passion for forensic psychiatry and substance use disorders, Dr. Oms pursued a Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship, during which he gained invaluable experience working part-time at The Watershed, a private detox facility in Broward County. This experience deepened his expertise in addiction medicine and detoxification. Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Oms transitioned into administrative leadership, serving as the Medical Director at New Horizons Community Mental Health Center (2009-2013). During this time, he also expanded his involvement in substance use treatment, co-founding and leading Miami Outpatient Detox as its Medical Director, offering concierge outpatient detox services. In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, Dr. Oms has made significant contributions to medical education. He served as Chairman and Psychiatry Residency Program Director at Larkin Community Hospital (2013-2017) and is currently the founding Residency Program Director for Southern Winds Psychiatry Program. He also holds academic appointments as an Assistant Clinical Professor at FIU College of Medicine, Saint George University, Ross University School of Medicine, and American University of the Antilles. Dr. Oms has remained dedicated to serving underserved populations, first as a staff psychiatrist at New Horizons Community Mental Health Center, then at Citrus Health Network through the Navigate Program, where he helped establish the Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Substance Abuse Program. In 2020, he joined Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital as a staff psychiatrist for the inpatient detox unit, where he played a pivotal role in developing a co-occurring substance use and mental health inpatient program and streamlining telepsychiatric consultation services across the Jackson Memorial Health System. With a strong interest in interventional psychiatry, Dr. Oms has been at the forefront of treatment-resistant depression therapies. Since 2019, he has served as Director of Psychiatry for Ketamine Health Centers, leading initiatives in IV ketamine infusion therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). He has also been actively involved in clinical research as a Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator. Beyond his clinical and academic contributions, Dr. Oms has been a leader in organized psychiatry, serving on the South Florida Psychiatric Society Executive Committee and the Florida Psychiatric Society’s Leadership Development and Nominating Committee. Currently, Dr. Oms serves as Chief Medical Officer at AGAPE Network, where he leads a 120-bed residential substance use and mental health treatment facility with a fully integrated outpatient center. Under his leadership, the facility has expanded its services to include psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, primary care physicians, case management, and therapy services. He remains deeply committed to integrating diverse treatment modalities and bridging mental health and substance use services to better serve the community.
